How sad is that blog title? :(
When we were sitting at Cummins in Boise, we made a plan that when we got to the Elks Lodge in Portland, we would spend a week packing up Scoopy and then we'd officially put her on the market. If we didn't have interest in her then, we'd just list her once we arrived in Seattle for the holidays.
There are not enough LOLs to express how ridiculous that plan turned out to be. Ultimately, we decided we just didn't want to deal with selling, we wanted to live in our home, decorate for the holidays and just enjoy what time we had left in her.
On New Year's Day we left Lake Pleasant RV Park near Seattle and hit the road. We ended up in Wilsonville, OR just south of Portland where we stayed for three days so we could finish packing Toadie and cleaning Scoopy. For our last trip, we drove to Carrier RV Service in Eugene where we turned over the keys. They will spruce her up a bit then put her on the market. It was such a relief that we didn't have to deal with all that. We were there about an hour, then said our final goodbye to Scoopy and began the long, long journey back to the ranch near Abilene, TX.

We've been at the ranch since January 8th and have stayed pretty busy getting ready for our big move and spending time with family. It's hard to believe, but next Wednesday we fly to Paris! From there we will take a train about an hour south to Sens where we will pick up our rental car and drive to the Airbnb we've rented for the next month. Our one and only goal for the next few weeks is to search for a new-to-us motorhome in which to live and travel for the next few years.
Together with friends and family in Texas.
It will be great if we find it right away, but we are prepared to take our time and find the right one for us. We have no other plans until April 18th when we have to make our way to St. Jean Pied de Port in the south of France. It is from here we will begin our walk of the Camino de Santiago on April 21st, Easter Sunday. We hope to have a rig by then, but if not, our search will have to be put on hold until June.
C'est la vie, right? :)
UP NEXT: Update from France!
Talk about mixed emotions! You must have been very sad heading to Texas yet so excited to be starting your new adventure. Cannot wait to hear what lies ahead!
ReplyDeleteWe learned we don't like traveling in a itty bitty car and staying in motels. What an awful way to travel! Scoopy spoiled us! :)
DeleteAll the best to you guys on your new adventures. A big step indeed. Maybe you will run across Nina and Paul from 'Wheeling It' somewhere over there.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Al. We hope to run into Nina and Paul during our mutual travels. Good to see you and Kelly on the road in the Southwest!
DeleteAll the very best as you begin your new adventures! Safe travels!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much! We are looking forward to seeing new places and lots of different cultures. But first, we gotta find a rolling home! :)
DeleteLoved the video. I think you guys should do more of those! What an adventure you guys are setting out on! I can't wait to follow along vicariously.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Jessica! Steven has returned to his filmmaking roots so I think you can expect many more videos! I'm so glad to know you will be along for the ride!
DeleteSo happy for you two, as this will be an amazing adventure, for sure! Best wishes on the Camino! I’ll be back here guarding the GF brownie shelf. 😉
ReplyDeleteLOL, are you still mad at me for clearing the shelves of the GF Brownie mix? :) I'm hoping I don't flame out on day one of the Camino. We'll see.
DeleteYes that title is very sad!! Hard to see her all emptied out. But alas a grand new adventure awaits - and very soon now - how did that happen? Your month in Sens sounds amazing. Can't wait to see if you end up with a Heimlich Maneuver :-)))) LOL to Jim's comment.
ReplyDeleteIt was hard to see her completely empty, but my gosh she cleaned up so well. She looked beautiful. We'll see if the blog name changes. LOL! :)
DeleteSafe travels. We wish you all the best in your new adventure! Looking forward to hearing all about it!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much! We admit to being jealous of your camp in Q. We love boondocking in the desert and it's been a bit depressing to see everyone out there having fun while we are homeless. :)
DeleteHere's to new chapters. I am curious to see how the European RV's stack up to the American ones. Safe travels in all of your new adventures.
ReplyDeleteWe are excited and nervous about the motorhome situation, in equal measures. They are very different in some respects, so it will be a challenge to adapt our daily lives into this new space.
DeleteHahaha that video!!! You guys go all the best places, and do it with such style!
ReplyDeleteSeriously, I know it must have been really hard to say goodbye to Scoopy, and at the same time, so incredibly exciting to be starting this fantastic new adventure. Happy trails, we'll be following your adventures—and please come back someday so that we can finally meet up with you in person, LOL! :-)
